Hey, thanks for stopping by! If you're new here, you're definitely going to want to sign up for my FREE 35-page report 7 Secrets of Strength and Health over on the right! You'll get the FREE report as well as updates about this site and all kinds of other cool stuff. Thanks for visiting!

One of the great and at the same time frustrating things about starting a site like this from scratch is that unless you’re already very well-known then you spend a fair amount of time writing to very little traffic (thanks for reading, Mom!). Eventually, assuming that you’re good and/or entertaining, your work will pick up steam and you’ll develop a solid readership base. That’s always gratifying and it’s why you started publishing in the first place, right? I mean, if I were writing all of this stuff just to get it off my chest or merely as a therapeutic expression of my inner self (I’m not nearly so pretentious) then I’d never publish.

However, that’s not the case. This is both my voice and a business for me, and so I put it out there. I’m pretty stoked that anyone reads it at all, honestly. The frustrating thing about blogging is that there’s a while where you’re writing what needs to be good content (to attract people) but nobody’s reading because you’re unknown. And since most people don’t have time to dig through tons and tons of blog posts (I sure don’t) your new readers tend to pick up where they land. This is all well and good, but it means that they’ve missed out on a lot of good stuff.

So in light of that, and because there’s been a lot of new readers ’round these parts lately combined with the fact that I just passed my 100th post, I’ve decided that it might be a good time to catch up on some classic articles that you guys might have missed.

So I cranked up the Way Back Machine (kudos to you if you get that reference) and pulled out a handful of articles that I thought deserved a second read. Cheers.

Hey all! My boy Andreas, owner of The Blog For Stronger Men, shot me a line a little while back and wanted to talk a bit about my stance on living the Strength Lifestyle. Since I jump at the chance to get up on my soapbox, I figured this was a go.

Needless to say, we had a great time on the phone, and decided to record it!

Here’s the link to the interview. We get into success, mental focus, and goal setting, plus a whole bunch of other stuff. Give it a listen and then check out The Blog For Stronger Men.

Listen Here!

If you ask most people why they aren’t as successful as they’d like to be whether it’s business, fitness, relationships, or what-have-you, chances are you’ll get a variety of responses. The usual suspects something like:

-Not enough time/money/help
-Bad luck
-No opportunity
-I’m too short/tall/skinny/fat

Those are BS. Those are all superficial things that either don’t actually matter or can be overcome.

I was thinking the other day about the positive and negative attributes of my friends… Yes, I’m that guy.

My sociopathic behavior aside, it jumped out at me that one of my buddies possesses a great quality: He commits to action when he needs to and flows immediately from situation to decision.

He, like all of us, has his share of flaws and, like any good friend should, I inform him of them as frequently as possible. However, when the chips are down you can always count on him to do something.

A few days ago I posted a quick question to my Facebook Page
which read:

“What is one thing the (now older and wiser) you of today would like to tell the you of 5, 10, or 15 years ago… assuming that young you would actually follow the advice?”

I got some great responses (great enough to post it to my personal page, too, for more input) and some of them got me thinking about what I’d say myself. I honestly hadn’t thought of any of my own answers when I posed the question as I was curious about others’ thoughts. However, given that I went ahead and asked, I guess it’s only fair that I come up with my own answers.

Like a lot of coaches, I have a handful of “pet” phrases, cues, and quotes that I tend to bring out.  When I’m talking to my clients or having a conversation there are a few that seem to come up pretty regularly.  Usually I don’t notice it or think it’s that obvious until a client starts mimicking one back at me (this is right before I they end up doing extra push-ups).  It’s not that I can’t think of something original to say, trust me, it’s that these cues work.

One of my favorite lines that you’ll never hear me apologize for using is “Strength is a skill”.  I use it a lot, tag most of my emails with it, and firmly believe it.  I’d like to claim that I originated the quote, but I know that I heard it from someone back in the day, but I honestly can’t remember who coined the phrase (if anyone knows then shoot me a line).  Regardless of its root, I think this quote best sums up my training and life philosophy in one succinct message.

Holy crap, finishing this list has been a long time coming! I’ve been taking a break from writing while focusing on some sudden changes in my face-to-face business and taking advantage of the opportunities there-in. My apologies, as I should have finished this series of posts first!

Anyway, in case you missed it, I recently turned 31 and in light of that have compiled 31 things I’ve learned about life, strength and conditioning, business, and relationships. Here’s Part I and Part II.

And now, let’s finish the list!

Ok, so that’s a pretty loaded title for Make It Happen Monday but what I want to talk about today is becoming a lost art. There’s an old saying that goes to the effect of “you were given two ears and one mouth, and you should use them in that order”. Most everyone has heard this saying before, but how many people really apply it? It seems that the ears are getting lost in the flapping of everyone’s mouths.
